Fuel Brand Network (Website Wednesday #14)

Being a freelance motion graphics designer, I’m constantly on the lookout for websites that will improve both my knowledge of the industry and my skills; however, I find this isn’t good enough because when I became a freelancer, I became my own business. I have to keep all my creative paths at the top of their game because I’m not able to pay for a lot of extra services on the money I currently make. That means I’m my own website developer, illustrator, writer, coder, photographer and so on. I have to wear multiple hats if I want to get things done inexpensively and fast.

To gain all that knowledge, I usually scour multiple websites dedicated to specific genres and try to soak up all the knowledge they offer. If they are good enough, I post the website here for everyone to view, and me to remember.

Lately, I have been finding myself constantly going back to a network of websites that I came across a while ago. All these websites are related in structure but have content spread across all the creative fields I’m interested in and many I’ve only dabbled in. Because they’re all part of the same network, this saves me time I would usually spend surfing the internet, which, in turn, saves me money (because, time is money, after all).

Fuel Brand Inc., which is an aptly named company, has created this network of sites that, as cheesy as it sounds, fuels your creativity. There are sites dedicated to motion graphics, writing, coding, illustration, venture, blogging, creativity, apps and so much more. As you move from site-to-site, you begin to realize the wealth of knowledge that this network has provided for its viewers. Articles full of tips and opinions, tutorials, industry news, interviews, inspiration, jobs and so much more for all areas of creativity are at your fingertips.

You would be hard-pressed to find all this knowledge spread across the internet, let alone in one network, and it’s all for free. I can’t recommend this site enough for anyone working in the freelance industry or those who are currently working for a company in the industry.

If you want stay on top of your industry, and all other creative industries, you have to visit the Fuel Brand Network.

Wow, thank you John for such a wonderful and personal insight about the importance of good resources are for yourself, and freelancers in general. The Fuel network of sites really do span quite a variety; the level of writing and insight is great because they all work in their area of expertise that they represent on that site. I know Adelle and Joshua will be stoked about your thoughts, and very appreciative. Is there anything that you find missing in the gap that you would like to see, or see more of?

Again, thank you your kind and thoughtful words.

Thank you for coming to my site, reading my article and commenting!

The entire Fuel Brand Network is amazing both visually and content-wise. It already has a ton of great articles that inspire my creativity, but I sometimes do feel the site needs more articles that push my technical knowledge of creative software and the business side of the industry or challenges what I know about that stuff. It has a lot of these already, but there seem to be more “inspirational” articles than anything. These technical articles wouldn't have to be full on tutorials, but articles that would open knew doors and pathways that people didn't know existed or didn't think about.

I'm waiting for the shrink wrap to come off Production, which I can only assume covers shooting/editing video and hopefully VFX, and Venture, which I'm hoping details freelance and small business to big business, as well. Both of these I'm very interested in.

There could also be a little more content on 3D, as well.

Also, I just found Fuel Brand TV today which has a lot of potential. As it is right now, it's good. I see the production value and content are consistently getting better which will keep me coming back for more.

The whole network is great and I can see it getting better over time, but, as always, there are a few areas it can improve on; however, I'll keep coming back for more because there's already a great community and great content.

Thank you for such a wonderful review. There are a lot of wonderful people that share their experience and passion in the network, so we're always glad to hear when it helps others!

Thank you so much for your comment! It would be a shame not to recognize the amount of work that has already gone into this network, and I'm excited to see where it goes in the future!

Websites such as the ones on Fuel Brand Network are what keep people like me inspired and moving ahead on projects and new ideas. Without them, sharing and spreading ideas would be nearly impossible so thank you all for creating it!
