Orbitron & Public Gotham Family (Type Tuesday #12)

Did I hear someone say they were looking for another great science-fiction inspired font? Well, if you love sci-fi as much as I do then the answer must be yes. Orbitron by Matt McInerney fills that spot nicely with it’s very geometric shapes and edges. It comes in a light, medium, bold and black weights with both capital and lowercase letters along with a full range of glyphs to add to the sci-fi ambiance. It’s a beautifully made and complete font, and it’s free. A must download.

It’s hard to nail down exactly what Public Gotham Family reminds me of when I look at it. I suppose the best way to describe it is the font you would see in old boxing poster promoting the upcoming fights or something similar. It’s not a crazy font–it’s a rather beautiful font, actually–but it contains elements of uniqueness that would only be found in a more obscure font. It does all of this while still holding strong in a very sturdy typeface. Regardless, it’s a must download for any font lover. It comes in a circular, federal, square and vintage styles; and they are free to download.
